Our Colourful New Freo Playground Opens in Walyalup Koort

Seedesign Studio directors, Joel Barker and Eoin Gladish at the new Walyalup Koort Playground

This week the City of Fremantle celebrated the opening of our newest bespoke playspace in the heart of Freo. The new playground has created a playful and vibrant focal point for families and young children in Fremantle’s new Walyalyup Koort.

The design was a collaboration between Seedesign Studio landscape architects, the City of Fremantle, artist Tom Lucy and children’s book illustrator and artist Chris Nixon who brought his incredible eye for playful characters and colour to the table. Bright colours and bold graphics celebrate the city’s historic and industrial built forms. Nature play elements are woven into the concrete and brightly painted steel built forms. The result is a playground which is grounded in a strong sense of place and a celebration of the city that our team loves.

The Walyalup Koort Playspace has been years in the making. Our team are so excited to see young children, their families and the broader community exploring and enjoying the space together.
