Flexibility has been embedded into the design to ensure a future operator of the station master house has optimum use of the surrounding plaza.

Public art has contributed seamlessly within the plaza with WA artist Concreto responding to the Kelmscott context. A series of polished terrazzo 'creatures' perched along a series of recycled brick walls tells the evolving timeline of Kelmscott from original organisms through to endemic species and its agricultural background. A nod to the art and crafts of the local community is inlaid to the main entry of the station in the formas of intricate concrete 'doilies'.

See Design Studio was a key part of a multi-disciplinary consultant team led by SMEC engineering and Principal Contractor Downer in upgrades to Metronet's Denny Avenue level crossing to increase safety within Kelmscott town centre.

Working with Plus Architecture on the revitalisation of the original Kelmscott Station Master House a new community plaza and station entry has been created for the local Kelmsoctt community.

Large existing trees have been retained within the plaza including the exotic species Melia azedarach (Cape Lilac) an important food source frequented by Carnaby's Black Cockatoo. Deciduous tree species have been planted to ensure maximum shade and urban canopy throughout summer, with local and WA native plantings to ensure year round colour.

Reclaimed bricks have been utilised within raised garden beds along with integrated seating along with circular feature planters to the station entry offering a place to sit. Food truck locations have been designed to allow for events throughout the year and service the local community too and from the station along with an open turf space and public seating.
